Contact in Paradise (CiP) is Austria's beloved contact improvisation festival — a multi-day immersion of dance, live music, workshops, and soulful community in the stunning Vienna Alps. 
 
Each year we gather at Seminarhaus Flackl, a retreat center with organic meals, sauna, meadows, and mountain air, to create something rare: a space where movement becomes medicine and connection becomes art. 
 
All levels welcome — if you've never danced contact before, this is one of the best places on earth to begin. 
 
Since 2023, each edition has carried its own theme — its own apple. Fülle. Lebensfreude. A Tribute to Austria. Verbundenheit. Now CiP 2027 invites us into the next chapter of this living, breathing festival.
What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a contemporary dance form rooted in the exploration of movement between two or more bodies — following momentum, weight, and gravity together, without fixed choreography. 

It is at once a physical practice, a meditative discipline, and a profoundly relational art form. No prior dance experience required. 

All bodies, all ages, all skill levels welcome.

FAQ

Do I need prior dance experience?

Not at all. CiP explicitly welcomes beginners. Teachers create an inclusive space where everyone can find their entry point. The festival motto: All levels — beginners welcome!

Can I bring my children?

Yes! Children and young people up to age 18 attend the festival free of charge. A dedicated children's morning programme runs in parallel to the adult intensives so parents can dance. Special Flackl rates negotiated for kids' accommodation.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellations before April 18 incur a €60 admin fee; after that, the full amount is retained. You may send a substitute participant. We recommend cancellation insurance — one option: europaeische.at/veranstaltungen.
I need financial support to attend. Is that possible?
Yes. We hold a small number of solidarity places each year. Please reach out to us at info@contact-in-paradise.com before registering, and we will do our best to find a solution.

What does my ticket include?

Your ticket covers participation in all available intensives, workshops, jams, and sauna. Meals and accommodation are booked and paid separately through Seminarhaus Flackl (flackl.at).
How does the sliding-scale pricing work?
The earlier you register, the less you pay — that's our EnergieBalance model. Whatever you choose within your registration window is the right choice. And if you're able to add a little extra, we're deeply grateful. No explanation needed, no judgment — just come as you are.
Where exactly is the venue and how do I get there?
Seminarhaus Flackl, Hinterleiten 12, A-2651 Reichenau/Rax — south of Vienna in the Lower Austrian Alps. A free shuttle runs from Payerbach-Reichenau train station. A carpooling link is sent to all registered participants shortly before the festival.
